Buying Advice, Static Caravan Ownership

Buying Advice and static caravan holiday home ownership

At Firs Caravan Park we aim to offer you the customer value for money. We aim to make sure that when you purchase your static caravan holiday home on our caravan park, you do so from an informed and educated position. Please take a look at our question and answers page and should you have any other questions then please feel free to contact us by phone or email.

After reading our advice on this page we hope that even if you decide not to purchase on our caravan park you can make the job of any sales person a wee bit harder by asking the right questions.

Many of the large park operators ie Park Resorts, Bourne Leisure, Cinque Ports and GB Holidays  use a number of sharp sales tactics to railroad potential customers into purchasing the companies own static caravans. They also make it as hard as possible to sell should your circumstances change.   Below is a list of just a few:

Not marketing private customers' static caravans: When you visit a park ask the sales person for a list of caravans that are for sale and then ask if these belong to the park or are private customers caravans. If there is an absence of private caravans for sale walk away!

Loyalty discounts on site fees: Some parks offer a big discount on site fees if that static caravan belongs to the park. If it is a private caravan for sale this discount is not available and the private caravan will be disadvantaged from the start. This is fine if you intend to keep your caravan for a long period of time (if you can). If you upgrade you will most likely have to part exchange with the park to keep your loyalty discount. If you wish to sell privately then you are instantly disadvantaged!

Misleading Pricing: the advertised price on larger holiday parks or group parks does not include lots of additional charges which are only given to you just before you sign the paperwork. These include the siting of your static caravan the connection to the water, gas & electricity, fire extinguishers, smoke & co2 alarms, steps, fridges, gas bottles, axel stands etc…

Double site fees: Most other parks do not refund site fees during the season this again disadvantages the seller of a private static caravan or holiday home. At Firs Caravan park we calculate site fees pro rata to new customers and refund this back to the private seller on completion of the sale.

False static caravan shows and holiday home exhibitions: in most tourist towns around the country you will see theses signs on lamp posts and road sings. This is simply fly posting and shows a complete disregard for the setting which they are trying to encourage you to stay in.

These practices are very restrictive and are not always apparent until you wish to sell your static caravan or holiday home. These large park operators are run by people who have very little interest in you as an individual.  Unless you are looking for a large holiday complex try to find a smaller independently run Caravan Park.

At Firs Caravan Park we believe in being fair to all our customers old and new.
